Make the world a better place.

Learn how to conserve nature's ecosystems and create a sustainable society.

Human consumption of our planet's natural resources is a real problem. Air, water and soil pollution. Habitat degradation. Localized overpopulation. Poverty. The growing demand of our nonrenewable natural resources.

Human ingenuity is the solution.

As the world begins to shift toward alternative energy technologies and new conservation strategies, students with Environmental Science degrees are being called on to design, restore and maintain these sustainable systems.

Why Â鶹ͷÌõ for Your Environmental Science Degree?

As an Environmental Science degree student at Â鶹ͷÌõ, you will study the interactions of the biological, chemical and physical processes of the Earth - learning how the complex systems of the planet operate, the relationship between man and nature, and how to design systems that minimize human interference and restore nature's sustainable ecosystems.

Upon graduation, you will be ready to hit the ground running in a career as an Environmental Scientist within local and state conservation or environmental protection agencies, performing investigations in conservation biology, forestry, fisheries and atmospheric sciences. Plus, many of our students develop a passion for an advanced degree in geographic information systems (GIS), ecology, conservation biology, natural resource management, environmental biology or foresty, and move on to graduate school straight after Â鶹ͷÌõ. Learn more about your career options with an Environmental Science degree.

  • Morton Arboretum
  • Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies
  • Duke University
  • Ohio State University
  • University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Activism vs. Conservationism

Students tend to enter the field of Environmental Science because of their passion. But there is a difference between shouting and doing. At Â鶹ͷÌõ, you will learn to "do" by discovering your passions and learning how to make them happen through:

  • Internships and volunteer opportunities with local non-profit environmental organizations and government agencies
  • Course options at the Morton Arboretum and the John G. Shedd Aquarium
  • Undergraduate research

Plus, choose a curriculum track that focuses on your specific career goals and professional interests:

  • Ecology
    • Learn how ecosystems function. Appreciate biodiversity. Understand the significance of the human ecological footprint.
  • Sustainability
    • Biomimicry. LEED. Green solutions. Learn how cities and companies alike can practice sustainable stewardship.
